Bristol Driving Day

Monday 14th May 12 - 5:54pm

We had a lovely day at Alan Spark's yard on Saturday 12th May. It had finally stopped raining and the sun shone all day long. Alan asked us which engines we'd like to be on and I chose The Masterpiece as I haven't worked on a Showman's engine before. My brother James was on an Aveling and Porter Roller. Alan showed us how the engines are taken out of the shed which was interesting! Then we were off, carrying out the usual checks, cleaning the tubes and firebox and setting the fire. The Masterpiece took ages to gain any pressure, so Rory our instructor emptied some water out of the tanks to speed things up - it worked and we were soon gaining pressure. Alan has a roadway that goes down hill from the yard, so it made for some interesting driving! James and I would like to say thank you to Alan for running the day, and to Rory and Bob our instructors. It was a great day!

Rally Season 09

Fri 25th Dec 09 - 17:24pm

I have had a geat season in 2009. I've been to different rallies this year with Michael Davies one being the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railways one at Cheltenham racecourse.
As Michael owns ploughing engines it was nice to have a field to ourselves (ploughing tackle that is)and see Western Prairies and a Castle class go up and down the line, it was truely victorian britain apart from cameras and clothes.
Thank you to Michael for yet another wonderful year.
Hope its as steam filled next year.

Andrew Fisher, age 13. (4631), Banbury.
