Our Volunteers

Behind every hiss of steam, every turn of a wheel and every apprentice’s triumphant grin stands the quiet power of volunteers. Our SAC volunteers are the engine room of our world of heritage traction: guiding, supporting, teaching and enabling. They bring not just their time, but their passion, skill and generosity and in doing so they keep the traction engine wheels turning.

Volunteering is far more than a kind gesture. It builds community, connects people across generations and backgrounds, fosters purpose and belonging.

Here at SAC, our volunteer team ensures every event runs smoothly – from engine-maintenance foremen to steaming crews, from drivers’ mentors to hospitality helpers. Without their energy and dedication, our apprentices would miss the chance to steer, fire and drive; our heritage engines would stand still.

So, to our volunteers, we say a big thank you. You power possibility. You fuel learning. You keep SAC rolling full steam ahead.
