Driving Days

Let off some steam!

Our Driving Days offer an opportunity for apprentices to spend a full day working with road steam. The day is a mix of theory and practical and takes our apprentices through a standard 'day of steam'. This starts with cleaning, sweeping the tubes, raking the firebars and sweeping out the ashpan, before lighting the fire, oiling up and eventually driving and steering one of the engines. We try to get a mix of engines (full size and miniature) so engine size can be matched to apprentice size.

Its worth remembering though that miniature engines typically take more effort, and arguably more skill, to drive than their full sized cousins !

Safe and Fun Driving Experiences

Our meticulously-planned Driving Days are a joy for participants and spectators.

Fun for the Family

No matter what age or gender, we have something for everyone at our events.

Skills for Life

We encourage healthy character-building, with a variety of things to see and do, and all kinds of characters to meet and speak with, enabling people to share projects, problems and challenges, encouraging them to be tackled together.
