Tonbridge Driving Day

In October, 21 apprentices from the Steam Apprentice Club took part in a memorable driving day in Kent. We were lucky to enjoy fine weather and the support of some dedicated engine folk who brought along a total of 17 steam engines – and even a few more lying in the shed for a closer look. Throughout the day, the apprentices learned hands-on skills: steering, firing and driving the engines under expert supervision.

Paul Stingmore, Chair of the SAC, said: “Every participant rose to the challenge, handled their engine with enthusiasm and went home smiling. It was a powerful reminder of how practical experience helps nurture future steam-engine talent and builds confidence. Huge thanks to all the engine owners, mentors and apprentices who made the day such a smashing success.”

We look forward to more great driving days ahead!
