The first Driving Days of 2026 are off to a great start!

Weeting

Thanks to Kate Plant of Weeting Rally for hosting another fantastic Driving Day! Taking place on the weekend of 18 and 19 April, Kate and her Team did an amazing job.  There were more engine and apprentices than ever before! Well done all!

Astwood Bank

A big thank you to the Davies family, and huge congratulations to all of our steam apprentices who took part in their Driving Day at Astwood Bank, Worcestershire, on 25 April.

Everyone involved made a fantastic effort to make the day a big success – and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect.

Those with a keen eye might just have been able to spot Lady Sylvia back in steam! Built by apprentices ten years ago, she is a miniature Burrell traction engine for use by the SAC to teach apprentices how to run and drive miniature steam engines at a variety of rallies.

Stithians

Organised by the West of England Steam Engine Society (WESES) and led by Sam Eastman, Stithians Driving Day on 2 and 3 May provided young members with some fantastic hands-on experience of steering and maintaining steam engines. Everyone was getting stuck in and working hard learning new skills – great skills! Again, a bumper entry and number of engines!

Horsham

Thanks also go to the Searle family for hosting the recent Horsham Driving Day on 23 May. There was another fantastic turn-out, with all places used. There was some real talent on display amongst the up-and-coming apprentice group. Les and Dee have worked with many young drivers over the years to improve their skills and performance behind the wheel, and we hope this Driving Day continues for many years to come.
